Media As Mediation
A website proposing a youth media project in my rural hometown of Northwest Florida. The project’s aims to use digital media production as a means of learning to represent the self (our local community), while simultaneously carving space of understanding for others. It was designed around human rights education, media anthropology, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “The danger of a single story”, and collaborative community art practices.
By addressing the ways rural areas have been stereotyped and misrepresented in mainstream media, I hope to encourage students to think more critically about the ways “others” have been portrayed negatively as well.
